Uniswap permissionless bridging across 9 networks is now live

Uniswap Labs has announced that permissionless bridging via the Uniswap wallet and interface is now operational across nine networks.

One of our most requested features is in-app bridging, which we are excited to implement as a step toward our long-term vision of cross-chain swaps, according to a blog post published by Uniswap Labs on Wednesday.

Uniswap launches cross-chain bridging

The development company said more than six million people use Uniswap to trade on various chains today. Our goal at Uniswap Labs is to ensure that these users have access to seamless, easy bridging across chains.

Permissionless bridging was introduced by Uniswap in part to help mitigate the occasionally difficult task of operating and across assets across multiple chains.

Up until now, it has been difficult to move assets between chains. It meant waiting for lengthy transaction times, utilizing external bridges, and navigating unfamiliar interfaces. Furthermore, there is never any certainty regarding the security of various bridging services.

There are currently over six million Uniswap users with multi-chain access, according to Dune data. Still, there aren't many cross-chain bridge swaps. The team at Uniswap Labs wants to raise this figure considerably.

Uniswap’s permissionless bridging enabled by Across protocol

Across Protocol powers the Uniswap Labs product bridging. Across is the only cross-chain intents protocol currently in use, offering users quick and safe cross-chain transactions. Across is a permissionless bridge that uses a decentralized network of relayers and liquidity pools in comparison to other bridges. Fast, secure bridging that settles in seconds rather than minutes is made possible by this system.

The ERC-7683 token standard, which was introduced earlier this year by the crypto entity and Uniswap Labs to improve cross-chain interoperability, also powers Across' intent-based bridging technology.

The token standard enables a universal filler network to handle transactions and unifies cross-chain intents. It eliminates the need for multiple layer-2 deployments by enabling developers to access the full EVM ecosystem while focusing on a single chain.

Although ERC-7683 is still in its early stages, Vitalik Buterin, the founder of Ethereum, has recognized the token standard.

Uniswap bridging capabilities support popular blockchain networks

Initially, the bridging capabilities of the decentralized exchange are focused on supporting some of the most popularly used and prominent blockchain networks.

According to the post, bridging for Ethereum, Base, ArbitrumPolygon, OP Mainnet, Zora, BlastWorld Chain, and ZKsync will be accessible at launch. In addition, bridging will only be possible with native assets (such as ETH on Ethereum or ARB on Arbitrum) and stablecoins.
