Unveiling World Chain: A New Blockchain Designed for Humans

Today, the company behind Worldcoin unveiled World Chain, a new blockchain designed for humans. This is a significant milestone for Worldcoin since its inception nine months ago.

Sam Altman’s eye-scanning crypto project, is designed purposefully to increase capacity so new people can continue to join at scale and existing users can enjoy faster, cheaper, and more reliable transactions. The blockchain is deeply entwined with the Worldcoin protocol with the aim of accelerating the adoption of World ID.

The official statement as seen on the company website, World Chain will be open to everyone, and verified humans including more than 5 million verified World ID holders, will get priority blockspace over bots as well as a gas allowance for casual transactions. The timing of this achievement perfectly coincides with the launching of the World Chain, marking a pivotal moment in the trajectory of the project.

Additionally, World Chain will be a place to reach on-chain users at scale for developers. More than 10 million people in 160 countries across the world will be able to explore and use on-chain apps through compatible wallets, starting with the World App. This allows developers to reach millions of these real users around the world with apps focused on utility for everyday life.

World Chain, an ecosystem of decentralized financial and identity apps focused on utility for everyday life will be secured by Ethereum as an L2 and engineered for scalability within the Superchain ecosystem, with a broad community of projects building apps for everyday life.

The new Layer 2, called World Chain, World Chain will be secured by Ethereum as an L2 and engineered for scalability within the Superchain ecosystem, with a broad community of projects building apps for everyday life.

According to the firm, the goal is not just to be more inclusive and the protocol will seek to reach an equilibrium where gas for casual users is ultimately covered by fees from bots and power users.

Importantly, it will be a permissionless, open source, Ethereum layer-2 expected to launch in the second half of the 2024 intended to ultimately be independently governed by the community.
