By integrating with Skyscanner, the blockchain-based platform Travala has made a significant advancement in the adoption of cryptocurrencies, according to an announcement by Cointelegraph.
Travala is a 2017-founded travel booking platform powered by cryptocurrencies that offers access to more than 2.2 million properties across 230 countries and booking services for more than 600 airlines globally.
Now that Travala is available to Skyscanner's more than 110 million monthly users, it could bring cryptocurrency and blockchain-based applications substantial mainstream exposure, the post added. Travala aims to revolutionize the travel experience for cryptocurrency owners by enabling them to book travel directly through cryptocurrency payments.
According to Sanja Vukik, head of hotels at Skyscanner, the new partnership, which represents Skyscanner's first implementation with a crypto-native application, highlights the company’s commitment to offering a variety of payment options to meet the evolving needs of travelers.
Vukik added, "We're making travel planning more flexible and accessible for the increasing number of travelers who prefer alternative payment methods by integrating Travala.com's crypto-native platform with the market-leading search capabilities of Skyscanner."
According to Justin Hyun, director of investments at TON Foundation, onboarding the next 500 million users will actually require basic apps with "actual usability," like Telegram Mini Apps.
With an average of more than 80 billion searches made every day on Skyscanner, more people may become aware of Travala's cryptocurrency-powered travel platform, the post added.
Juan Otero, CEO of Travala, said travel marketplaces such as Skyscanner are where many travelers begin their journey during the discoverability phase, and having the company listed on one of the top travel marketplaces globally will encourage the curiosity of web2 users', thereby leading them into the Web3 world. Travala offers crypto rewards in place of traditional loyalty points through an integrated crypto-based loyalty program, Otero added.
Travala announced in June 2024 its integration with The Open Network that will enable Toncoin (TON) holders to book hotels, flights, and travel packages using their tokens. The company already accepts payments using market leaders such as XRP, Ether, Solana, and Bitcoin. Travala accepts 127 different payment options in total for travel bookings.
