TON Blockchain back online after suffering two outages in two days

After experiencing its second outage in two days, the TON blockchain network is back online. The Open Network (TON) went down for the first time for six hours without processing a transaction, based on on-chain data. This was due to the DOGS memecoin, which recently held its airdrop event, causing an "abnormal" amount of transactions on the network.

According to Tonscan data, the blockchain connected to Telegram stopped generating new blocks on Tuesday at approximately 10:11 p.m. UTC. As the cessation increased, Binance and Bybit Exchange temporarily paused accepting deposits and withdrawals from the network.

The firm status group on Telegram reported that in order to get the network back to normal, validators needed to restart nodes with specific flags at about the same time. The statement said not enough validators have restarted their nodes with the appropriate flags up to this point. If you haven't already, please restart your nodes with new flags as soon as possible.

The blockchain experienced the outage the second time, and it was due to the overwhelming volume of DOGS memecoin transactions on the blockchain.

In an X post, TON explained that block production issues began at 19:19 UTC. DoGS token minting appears to be the cause of the disruption due to a heavy load. To address the issue, TON developers requested that mainnet validators update and restart their nodes following the suspension. The network problem was fixed, according to a Telegram announcement made on the TON Community channel at 1:30 a.m. UTC.

The Telegram-based memecoin DOGS attracted a lot of interest from the cryptocurrency community when its developers revealed their intentions to increase the token's usefulness inside the Telegram network. On Monday, DOGS announced the start of its airdrop event, stating that community members would receive 81.5% of the 550 billion token fixed supply.

Pavel Durov, the founder and CEO of Telegram, has been granted bail by French authorities, subject to stringent requirements such as providing five million euros, appearing before police twice a week, and staying within the French borders. Durov was first detained as part of an inquiry into claims that Telegram offered services and tools for cryptography that helped with drug trafficking, child pornography, and money laundering.
