Upcoming HBO documentary claims to reveal Bitcoin creator identity
The true identity of Bitcoin's pseudonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, will be revealed in an upcoming HBO documentary.
The anonymous creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto, reportedly disappeared in December 2010. According to estimates, if Satoshi Nakamoto survives, he may hold up to 1.1 million Bitcoin, which are presently valued, at least on paper, at $67 billion.
Who is Satoshi Nakamoto
Since the introduction of Bitcoin to the world over fifteen years ago, the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto has been a key question in the cryptocurrency space.
The pseudonym "Satoshi Nakamoto" refers to the person or persons who first proposed the idea of Bitcoin in a paper published in 2008. Up until about 2010, Nakamoto continued to be involved in the development of Bitcoin and the blockchain, but he hasn't been heard from since.
Contributions to the initial software version of Bitcoin in 2007 seem to have come from the Satoshi Nakamoto persona.
Nakamoto stopped being involved with Bitcoin in 2010. It was stated in an email to another cryptocurrency developer that they had moved on to other things—that was the last communication anyone had with Nakamoto.
Satoshi Nakamoto about to be exposed
The inability to identify Nakamoto has resulted in a great deal of wild speculation regarding his identity, particularly in light of the rise in the quantity, value, popularity, and notoriety of cryptocurrencies.
Cullen Hoback, the director of "Q: Into the Storm," the documentary series that exposed the people behind the QAnon conspiracy theory, is the creator of the upcoming HBO film, "Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery," which will premiere on October 9. On Thursday, the company released the trailer online.
In an interview with Fast Company, filmmaker Cullen Hoback explained that they made a hell of a case in the documentary and believes whoever is identified will come as a surprise and is going to result in some controversy. Regardless of how compelling our case was, I believe that people will still disagree, and that's okay. That is the nature of this space. More evidence than we could fit into the movie was available to us.
However, the audience's perspective on the case, their assessment of the evidence, and their level of conviction will ultimately determine the outcome.
Report claims the identity of Nakamoto is Len Sassaman
Alex Thorn, Head of Research at Galaxy Digital, stated on X on Thursday that he had heard in the HBO documentary that Len Sassaman is actually Nakamoto's real identity.
hearing that the forthcoming HBO (wed oct 9) documentary identifies len sassaman as satoshi -- there was a good write-up of this theory by @evan_worlds in 2021
if that's who the doc identifies, should be neutral to positive for BTCUSD given that len died in 2013 (RIP)…— Alex Thorn (@intangiblecoins) October 3, 2024
In addition, Thorn provided a link to a 2021 Medium article that examines the hypothesis that Sassaman—who took his own life—was actually Nakamoto.
At one point, computer scientist Craig Wright, who worked on the creation of Bitcoin, once claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto. but has since made sworn statements retracting his claims.
