Pudgy Penguins Expands to Target as Sales Reach Over One Million in a Year

Pudgy Penguins, a blockchain-based collection of digital artwork composed of non-fungible tokens (NFTs), has announced in a video posted to X that the company has sold over one million plush toys through various retailers.

In a video as seen on Luca Netz, CEO of NFT project Pudgy Penguins X handle on May 12, he announced that over a million Pudgy Penguin plush toys had been sold in under a year.

Netz said, “9 months ago we launched on Walmart, got a recent re-order in Walmart, we launched in Smiths, hot topic, Target, specialty retailers in Asia and across the globe, and a really cool place in Russia—I forgot the name.”

Penguins are now at Target. I got the numbers a couple of weeks ago, but we crossed over a million toys sold in just under a year on a unit basis. That is my biggest consumer product success ever, he added.

“I have a ton of respect for what other people are doing in the space, but a lot of that stuff is predicated on future moments. This is happening now, in real time. The little guy was able to put this stuff in some of the world's biggest retailers, so I think that is a pretty incredible story, and I am happy to represent and put Web3 and NFT on the map in a very real and tangible way.”

“So shout out to the whole team. It was a team effort to make this happen, and we only have two more products left. We will clear this one out.” he concluded.

Inspired by the Pudgy Penguins NFT collection, Pudgy Toys is a range of plush toys, figurines, and collectibles that debuted in May 2023 on e-commerce platforms. It quickly rose to the top of Amazon's seller rankings in three different categories and was named Toy Insider's Top Summer Toy of 2023.

Pudgy Toys announced earlier this year that it would be expanding its partnership with Walmart by adding 1,100 new locations, and in September 2023, the brand made its debut in 2,000 Walmart locations.

With the launch of this innovative new partnership with Target, the firm is taking a big step forward in their mission to revolutionize mainstream consumer experiences through the use of Web3 technology.

According to a press release, Luca Netz, CEO of Pudgy Penguins, said, “In addition to indicating growth, this expansion into Target highlights our desire to broaden the Pudgy Penguins community and draw in a varied new audience to our intellectual property."

“By integrating our unique digital NFT elements with physical toys, we're not just winning over a larger audience; we're also ushering in a new era where blockchain technology meets regular consumer interaction."

“This launch with Target shows the limitless potential of NFTs in the consumer retail market and marks not only a significant accomplishment for Pudgy Penguins but also a significant advancement for the entire Web3 community."

In the recently released Pudgy World, an online open-world game powered by zkSync where players can customize penguin characters, finish quests with a storyline, and more, each toy has a QR code that can be scanned to unlock attributes and collectibles. The toys available at Target include community Penguins and have been fully licensed using Overpass IP, the firm NFT licensing platform, and each toy comes with a birth certificate that has a QR code for Pudgy World. With toys now live at Target, the firm's onboarding efforts will expand to millions of more people.

Pudgy Penguins, one of the top ten NFT collections by volume traded, has achieved a remarkable milestone with the massive sales, and this has shown the amazing opportunities in the NFT space.
