Hedera joins Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust as a founding premier member

Hedera announced that it has joined the Linux Foundation decentralized trust project as a founding Premier Member.

According to a press release by the decentralized public network, Hedera stated that it has given LF Decentralized Trust full access to all of its source code, including its hashgraph consensus algorithm and all core services, libraries, and tooling. Under LF Decentralized Trust, the source code provided by Hedera Hashgraph LLC will be hosted and administered as project "Hiero."

Hiero is open to contributions from developers worldwide and will function under an inclusive and transparent charter. With Hiero, developers will be able to create a multitude of Hedera-specific applications and core platform features, such as explorers, decentralized exchanges, private ledgers, wallets, SDKs, bridges, and advanced cryptography offerings. Hedera's major contribution has been approved as a new project, Hiero, further showcasing its dedication to decentralized trust, open source, and empowering developers globally.

Daniela Barbosa, Executive Director of LF Decentralized Trust, explained in a statement that the success of Hedera can be attributed to its dedication to governance, community, and open source development. Hedera is advancing that commitment and helping in making sure there is a neutral home for the decentralized trust applications and technologies that are helping in the global transformation as a premier member, code contributor, and project maintainer.

Chief Scientist at Hashgraph and co-founder of Hedera, Dr. Leemon Baird, said, "Today marks a major milestone for the open-source community. By contributing Hiero to the Linux Foundation, Hedera shows its dedication to growing the network's potential through meritocracy and transparency for Council Members, grantees, the builder community, and ecosystem partners."

The Linux Foundation will take over the source code governance of the Hedera network, while the Hedera Council will still be in charge of its operational governance, the post added.
